David and Goliath by Dennis White

Just a thought… You are back in the “old west”. You step into the street to meet your foe. The biggest, meanest, fastest gun slinger around. He has a big 44 magnum fully loaded on his side. You, well, you have your single shot 22 Derringer pistol, and 5 bullets in your pocket. He has been calling you and everyone in town out for days. Everybody seems scared but you and it is time to deal with this rascal. You have had enough. You start running to meet your foe. Your gun isn’t loaded, so you have to: open the gun, dig in your pocket, find the bullet, load it, close and lock the barrel, aim, and shoot at your foe. All while he is drawing his gun to kill you. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? But that is pretty much what David did when He fought Goliath. Read 1 Samuel 17. David is going to battle with Goliath. Verse 44 says,

(40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.)

Then: Verse 48 & 49

(48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground.)

Would you be that confident that God was going to deliver you in the battle? How can you be that confident in your daily battles? We need to walk with God (Jesus) and trust Him every day. Trust Him with all you have (everything). As He keeps you safe in His arms, your confidence will grow like David’s did over time. David tells us why he could be so confident. Verse 37:

(37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”)

If you trust Jesus with what is important today big or little, you will be able to trust Him with more and more each day. Even when the big stuff shows up. Just a thought…
